Oil Painting Workshops with Mark Saenger
Throughout his career as an artist, Mark Saenger has always been dedicated to the art of teaching. He’s been a tutor and mentor to aspiring painters throughout the tri-state area for over a decade, literally having taught, thousands of students.
What makes Mark an outstanding instructor is his ability to explain difficult maneuvers and techniques on a very basic level. Interactive demonstrations and memorable personal stories often have students mesmerized and hysterical at his comedic and slap-stick gestures. Just when it seems as though Mark is becoming too light-hearted and generous with his narratives, he has the ability to flip the class around on a serious note and make a student understand the importance of the particular technique he’s describing.
Mark’s goal is to convey the understanding of a concept, rather than state the definition. He doesn’t want to discourage a student with academic words and jargon, but to express every idea clearly and in an understandable way. In person, it’s difficult to tell that Mark harbors a sea of knowledge because he’s so friendly and approachable. In fact, how can a man that’s inspired by meditating on a riverbank before turning it into a glorious landscape, be otherwise? Mark’s priority is that art must be felt.
Mark’s philosophy is that becoming a good artist requires nothing more than diligent practice and a knowledgeable mentor. His class settings are always intimate, to devote an appropriate amount of personal attention to each student. Students of all levels are welcome in Mark Saenger’s workshops.
