I've said to myself on many occasions I want to paint, but I had no idea where to go or how to start. My daughter and I saw an ad for a painting workshop that was being hosted by a local art gallery and we went in and I signed up immediately.
It turned out to be one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. Our instructor, Mark Saenger is great. As a teacher, I know how difficult it is to keep a group of students with different abilities, interests and attention spans, enthusiastic. Mark does this with seemingly no effort. Mark Sanger conducted a hands-on workshop for twenty-seven staff members from our district as part of an in service day. It was a tremendous success. The participants gave him outstanding marks on their evaluation forms. It was not an easy task to present a workshop of this nature to such a large group, yet Mark rose to the occasion. At the end of the allotted time, approximately half of the group decided to stay on to continue painting. Mark was gracious enough to give them this additional time and attention. Included in the participants were those who had never tried to paint, but accepted the challenge of learning something new.
They marveled at how well they succeeded for a first attempt at painting. Some more skillful participants were so pleased with their results that they intend having the painting framed and hung. Everyone indicated two things: it was enjoyable and fun, and Mark was a fine teacher. We recommend him to those who would like to share a similar experience.
